Economic success and social development will always be linked to the quality of the education our students receive.

The Overstrand Learning Hub assists Distance Learning and On-line Learning students who are registered with an accredited Higher Education institution by providing quality innovative contact learning support.

Holistic learning

Students have the benefit of engaging with the study material provided by their host university in our face-to-face tutorials where they are guided by qualified and experienced tutors and the collaboration of fellow students.

The Overstrand Learning Hub focuses on holistic learning that includes personal and professional development and aims to produce students that have learned how to study, and who know how to translate what they have learnt from the academic content into responsible and competent teaching and leadership in their future careers.

This unique research-based approach is value-centered and serves as the foundation for reinventing the teachers’ role in the Overstrand community.

Unique learner support

The Overstrand Learning Hub’s unique Learner Support bridges the gap that all students experience between access to on-line and e-learning courses and graduating as well-educated and balanced individuals.

Personal and Professional Development and in-depth educational and content guidance in individual and small group sessions with experienced Tutors.
  • Face to face tutorials with qualified and experienced tutors.
  • Face to face and WhatsApp collaboration with other student teachers enrolled for the same qualifications.
  • Registration with one of the accredited Higher Education Institutions (HEI’s) with whom The Overstrand Learning Hub has collaboration agreements.
  • Students enjoy the benefits of Distance Learning (live streaming of lectures, online study materials and standardized assessments provided by an HEI) in combination with the benefits of contact (face to face) learning support.
  • A unique Personal and Professional Development (PPD) programme which prepares students for the world of work.
  • Computer and Wi-Fi facilities at The HUB are available for students to use, and students can also get technological assistance. There is a booking system which allows students to do their online work at The Hub on weekdays between 9 and 5.
  • Academic, administrative, financial and wellness assistance are provided by an efficient team of tutors and administrative assistants.

in Hermanus

This recently renovated historic building, located at the hub of Hermanus symbolizes our diverse history while serving as a place for all our students, tutors and staff to interact. It also serves as the center where like minded people in the community can share their expertise.

We provide a fully equipped IT center with facilities to work online and participate in online learning events.

Distance Learning students enrolled with STADIO Higher Education can now also enjoy the benefits of:

Tutors

Our tutors are volunteers with the qualifications and experience relevant to the study areas they tutor.

While most tutors were either teachers or academics before joining The Overstrand Learning Hub, there are also a small number of tutors who were professionals in other fields such as the medical and legal professions.

They assist the students with academic reading and writing and act as mentors to prepare students for the world of work.

All tutors are dedicated to quality learning support based on a pedagogy which is based on 21st century approaches such as reflexivity, enquiry methods and constructive dialogue.

  • Higher Certificate in Pre-School Education (NQF 5)
  • B Ed in Foundation Phase Teaching (NQF 7)
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education: Senior and Further Education and Training (NQF 7)
  • Bachelor of Education Honors in Inclusive Education (NQF8)
  • Short courses for aspiring ECD practitioners and qualified teachers (CPTD)
